Our homemade chilli products are designed to add a touch of warmth and spice to your everyday cooking. We have designed our products to show that chilli is a versatile spice and not just a painful experience. Our range includes many products of varying strengths to appeal to all types of chilli lovers from the ‘die hard’ chilli fanatic to those who like chilli to add spiciness and flavour, not just heat, to their food.
WHO ARE WE?
Up The Garden Chillies is run by husband and wife team Martin and Loraine Brennan from our small holding in Doddington Kent where we grow, not only our own chillies, but a lot of the onions and garlic that go into our unique creations.
The recipes used for all the products we produce have been extensively researched and tweaked over the last two years until we think they are just about the best you will taste. We are not into gimmicks, our products are designed to add a touch of warmth and spice to your everyday cooking. We have designed our products to show that chilli is a versatile spice and not just a painful experience. With that in mind we have made sure all our products are not ‘over the top’ hot but are flavoursome and enhance whatever they are paired with, without masking it with extreme heat.
Unlike many artisan producers we never sell products made by a third party or in a factory setting. Every item we sell has been made by hand, by Loraine, in our fully equipped commercial kitchen.
When we have to buy ingredients in we try to source responsibly and if possible from local producers. The Bramley apples we use in our ketchups and relishes are all sources from a farm in the same village as us. We buy the apples that the large buyers class as ‘ugly’, those apples with blemishes or classed as under, or over, size. They all taste fantastic although they look a little different, lets face it once they’ve been processed for our products you would never know!
All of our sauces, ketchups and relishes (with the exception of the Sweet and Sour Sauce) are naturally low in refined sugar and salt. We use the Bramley apples to add a natural fruity sweetness and we use anchovies to add a savoury saltiness.
